The volcanic fissure Caulle has been erupting continuously for nine months, launching ashes and gasses into the atmosphere and disrupting air travel and agricultural activities around the Cordón area.
To this day, there is no evidence relating the health problems that people in Pocura and Riñinahue commonly experience, including eye and throat irritation, to exposure to the volcanic eruption.
On June 4, 2010, at around 2 p.m., a smoke column ascended over the region of Entrelagos, capping off a series of tremors that shook the area as a telling sign of what was to come. Military and Chilean police arrived to evacuate nearby residents and relocate them to shelters in the nearest cities, such as Lago Ranco.
